P is for Play

Why is it that kids' toys seem to multiply by the dozen??? After Grace's birthday, our toy quota has gone through the roof! Lance and I have been talking for some time about redesigning a space in our house to create a playroom for Grace. He was so nice as to draw out the entire space, dimensions and all. But then we just sort of put it on the back burner as other responsibilities and commitments took over. I'm the type of person that has to get "inspired" to get a project going. Don't get me wrong, I dream up all kinds of projects, but many of those don't see the light of day. Well, wait no more! The missing piece to my design came to me!!! I realize I'm way more excited than anyone else reading this, but just humor me for a second. Okay, so Grace loves animals, so that had to be part of the design, but since this space opens up to another area in our house, we had to consider the colors, etc. I didn't want pastels with this being a playroom and all, but I also didn't want primary colors, since the toys are bright enough on their own. I wanted a design that could serve many purposes...a quiet little nook for reading and cozying up on her sweet polka dotted chair...an active play station, complete with lots of storage bins...a little kitchen for pretend play....oh, to be a kid again! So after thinking about this for the better part of this year, I finally came across a print that served as the missing piece - aka. my inspiration. Check out this cute set of three coordinating birdie canvases made to go with the Penelope line from PBK.

Oooooh, I just love the artwork and it covers the requirements: animals-check! pink, greens, yellows, but not just pastel-check! Then I found these sweet little hand painted pails on ebay so of course I had to get a couple of them to house all the art supplies that I'm sure we'll be collecting soon.

So now I'm on a mission to see what other pieces from the PBK collection we might be able to incorporate. I can see this branch hanging above the reading corner to spark her imagination and this sweet little pillow along with Grace's favorite blanket.

I don't like to use every piece from a collection - I think it's much more fun to mix and match and throw in a few sweet vintage pieces to give it character. Funny how you can see something many times over and not find its beauty until some magical moment later...that's how I feel about the Penelope line and about many other things in my life, but that's a whole different story... So now, all I need to do is figure out the rug (it's an odd shaped space) since we have hardwood floors and decide on the little kitchen pieces and we're all set for Project Pumpkin Playroom!

  1. I love it!!!! And she'll have the sweetest outfit to wear as well. ;) Those buckets are to die for.

We bought the girls the PBK retro kitchen set in red for christmas. I can see their pink set fitting in perfectly in Grace's little playroom.

Sounds like you are having a lot of fun. :)

  4. A.J.,

Yeeayyy! I'm so excited you've been checking it out!!! Grace loves her Papa A.J., she just likes to play hard to get, after all she is a girl :). By the way, I've never seen her smile/laugh so much when dancing with anyone else, so you gotta keep those dance lessons up!!!

Lots of hugs and kisses from both of us.
