1301

Don't you love those moments when you just go for it? You give in to that little voice that too often gets hushed by the voice of reason.

Today was one of those days. My mom, the littles, and I usually eat lunch together on Fridays. It didn't look like we were going to be able to do so today since she had some house business to take care of. Until...I made the spur-of-the-moment decision to ignore our planned errands and just take the littles to surprise Noonie for an impromptu lunch date in our old hometown. Yay!

Oh, what fun! Grace gets excited anytime I mention a trip - doesn't matter where, just the word gets her excited. And Hudson, well - he loves long naps in the car so he was up to it too :) A couple of extra diapers thrown in the diaper bag and we were off!

Noonie was so excited to see us! Grace wanted to say Boo!, of course - anytime you tell her we're going to surprise someone, she thinks you should say "boo!" - so cute!

We ate at a true down-home restaurant. A finger lickin' good restaurant - nothing fancy just traditional southern food cooked by amazing folks.

The little pumpkin and this sweet little guy were on their best behavior. One minute they were giggling uncontrollably and acting silly... ... and the next they were being just so darn sweet, they made my mama heart proud. This little guy was extra happy because he had his first taste of true southern yams!!!...and storm bread :) What's "storm bread" you ask? Well, it's just what the little pumpkin called CORNBREAD! Ha, Ha - even our server got a kick out of that one!

Our menu: Chicken fried steak, purple hull peas, yams, and hot water cornbread...and blackberry cobbler with ice cream for dessert. YUMMY! No wonder Hudson kept grabbing my hand and directing it to his mouth! After today, it's a really good thing I'm starting THIS bright and early tomorrow morning.

After lunch we went back to the house I grew up in once we moved to the US. Hence, the 1301 title, our street number. The house has been vacant for some years now and my mom is finally getting ready to put it on the market so she was there today for the home inspection. The little pumpkin had a blast running around in all the empty rooms. Hudson thought the echo was too funny.

Before we got in the car for the drive home, Noonie insisted on some pictures out front to remember 1301 by...I'm so glad she did! The azaleas were in bloom - so gorgeous! Sweet memories indeed!

And mom...I'm so glad that after 16 years of living there (was it 16 yrs. you lived there?) that you FINALLY had a chance to just sit outside under that shady tree reading a magazine, drinking tea, and listening to the birds chirp. What a wonderful "last memory" of 1301!

  2. Thanks for the sweet surprise of coming over with the kids. I loved to see Grace running from one room to the other all inside the house.
Even little Hudson seemed to look with interest when I pointed out to him all the flowers and trees outside the house. And our lunch...mmmm....mmmm....mmmmm!!!!
    Care to do it again????
    Love, Mom
