Swimming 101

Yesterday was the little pumpkin's first swimming lesson. I'm not sure who was more excited, Grace, Hudson, or me - but all three of us were giddy with excitement as we made our way to the swim school.

Other than not being too thrilled about having to wear swim pants (all kids under 4 have to), I was able to get the little pumpkin ready and on deck without too much trouble. Sorry for the poor quality photos - I was dangling a curious little monkey from one arm and the old point-n-shoot with the other trying my best to capture the moment without a) falling into the pool; b) embarassing my swimmer; and c) letting said monkey dive head first into the water (he REALLY wanted to!).

Waiting ever so unpatiently for her class to start. First "swim" to the island in the middle of the pool, with her teacher's help, of course. Her teacher was so nice and sweet. She was also very skilled and used to all the drama the little pumpkin brought her way. I think Grace's opening statement to the teacher went something like this, "I'm just SOOOOOOOOOO tired (hand to forehead). I'm not actually sure I can do this right now." to which her teacher replied, "OK, then let's take a nap right here in the pool (ie. practice floating)," and suddently someone had a burst of energy that would put the Energizer Bunny to shame. I should have signed her up for acting lessons...

Taking a break and watching her classmate (the little boy in the red swimming trunks) practice his skills. He started in January and he's doing so well already! And proof that drama or no drama, she had a blast! At the very end of class, they had a chance to go down the slide and swim to a designated spot. Having been reassured that her teacher would be there to catch her, down she went! Again and again and again... Day 1 Lesson: Trust. Check!

Swimming works up an appetite, don't you know? So after changing, we met our friends Michelle, Maye & Beau for lunch at Chick-fil-A. The restaurant was promoting their new spicy sandwich so they had a cow walking around passing out samples.
Cow-in-costume + the little pumpkin = NO THANK YOU!
Cow-in-costume + Hudson = SWEET BELLY LAUGHS! After lunch we went to their house for a little playdate and let me just say that sweet Maye is going to be one great babysitter some day soon and a loving mother one day years from now. She is just so sweet and caring toward little ones. She played and played with Hudson and just gave him so much lovin'. He reciprocated by squirming his way out of her lap, crawling at Olympian speed and giggling as she chased after him. Typical boy!

What a fun day!
Can't wait to do it all over again next Monday!
