Fridays with Noonie

I look forward to Friday Lunch with Noonie with so much anticipation every week. I love spending quality time with my mom. I see her every week, after all she comes over and takes care of the littles 2 days per week while I'm at work. My mother-in-law watches them on the other day I work.
{Thank you Mom & Thank you Judy for this wonderful blessing!} But on those days, it's usually hustle & bustle. And then on the weekends, Noonie & Papa J spend time at their other home which is 2 hours away from us so Fridays are "our day". A day to catch up, to slow down, to talk, to make plans...to cherish sweet moments like this... We used to go out to eat every Friday for lunch, but now we alternate between going out and cooking at home. It's wonderful! This past Friday Noonie had us over for lunch at her place. She made some really delicious food like this new Baked Rice recipe and her famous Broccoli Cornbread - YUM! Someone gobbled it up...I'll let you guess who! And no matter how good the food, another little someone is still picky, picky, picky...much prefering to stick to her old favorites, like bell peppers, "stoplight peppers" if you happen to have red and yellow ones too!

Our Friday ritual would not be complete without the requisite after-lunch entertainment, like siLLy dAnCiNg... ... and tiCkLe sEssIoNs galore. I leave with way more than a full belly...I leave with my love tank on overflow, with newfound respect and admiration for this amazing woman I am blessed to call mom. And so it is that I look forward to Fridays with Noonie with more anticipation than the little pumpkin after a summer rainshower, catching tiny raindrops on her tongue. I hope wherever you are, whatever you do...you have your very own "Fridays with Noonie".
Thank you mom for being who you are.
Thank you God for giving her to me!

  1. Well this one made me want to cry. Our mommies are so special. I am not sure why it took me 30 years to figure that out but at least I finally learned to appreciate. Love the post. I want that broccoli casserole recipe. Looks yummy!

  2. OH...where has my little gymboree baby gone?! :)
Our noonie lives too far away...all the way in Hawaii. We do have an Oma (german for grandma) about 45 minutes away who works a lot. But we do get to see her and all her german treats about twice a month.

  3. Thank you, my dear daughter, for all those beautiful words. Fridays with you, Grace and Hudson are very special to me too. I love the way that we can laugh, love, talk, share, etc, etc, etc, together. You have always been my joy and my pride... my special blessing from God.
    All my love, always,
    Virginia/ Noonie

  7. Hi Jessica,
That is my daughter right above my comment. Gennifer. She has the two darling little girls that I have mentioned to you before. I also have a 3 yr. old grandson as well, which you probably know if you have visited my blog. I watch him while my middle daughter works. So I am the Noonie, and we are also blessed, to live right here in the same time, and get to see one another all the time! What a gift. Your mom sounds lovely.
