Friday was the little pumpkin's
Pink & Purple Picnic at school, the
wrap-up for P Week activities. All the parents signed up to bring food that started with the letter P...pickles, pretzels, pimento cheese sandwiches...we were in charge of bringing popcorn.
And since I can't seem to leave well enough alone, I decided that we shouldn't just bring plain 'ole popcorn...Pink & Purple Popcorn sounded much better!
I like to get Grace involved whenever possible so I quickly set up our own mini Popcorn Painting Station remembering THIS idea (please ignore the mess on the counter!).
Sweet evaporated milk - check!Grace gets soooo excited anytime these come out! Add a few drops to the evap. milk......and watch the magic begin! I think this was her favorite part :) Voila! Then just get a few pieces of popped popcorn and you're ready to paint, paint, paint!
Get ready for some fun! Oh, how I love these little hands! The mess is so worth it when you have moments of pure joy like this... And if painting popcorn is fun, painting your hands is just about the funnest thing ever! And because I had promised her Pink & Purple Popcorn... Yea folks, that's a picture of what NOT to do! The popcorn was a soggy mess. Painting popcorn with a brush is just right, soaking it with the tinted evaporated milk...not so much.
So what to do, what to do??? The littles were now in bed and I had promised the little pumpkin Pink & Purple popcorn for her picnic the next day. Thank goodness for the trusty ALMOND BARK in my pantry!!! I just melted it, tinted half of it pink and the other half purple, placed the popcorn on wax paper, and drizzled it over the popcorn, mixing it with my hands to ensure most pieces got coated. And this was the result: Ignore the plain jane baggie labels. Lance was out of town...it was 1am by now...and I still needed to wash a sink full of dishes. But come morning, the little pumpkin was SO EXCITED to show & tell her class all about the PiNk & PurPLe PoPCorN! So there you have it...definitely NOT your mama's popcorn :) So much better!!!
Sweet & Salty...and pretty too!
OK now that is too cute!!!!
ReplyDeleteSO cute and looks like it would be YUMMY! I might have to do this for Lindsey's Halloween bday party - with orange and purple popcorn!
ReplyDeletePS - you are such an overachiever, just like me. I think we are sisters, separated at birth. I would SO be up at 1am making colored popcorn. I get you, girl! Haha!
You are such a good Mama! I can totally relate to the 1am too! Turned out awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. You are so creative. I recently found your blog and my head is spinning with all of your wonderful ideas! Hope you don't mind if a steal a few!

ReplyDeleteHow fun... wish I would have thought of that when my oldest had "p" week... I sent pretty pink pretzels to the "p" picnic and plain ol' popcorn to pj movie day... but she wore pretty pink princess pjs with pink polka dot bows in her pigtails... and they watched peter pan... I love learning from another crazy momma... my youngest has "d" week in her 2 day 3 year old class this week... searching for some ideas... wanted to send little toy dogs (walmart had them with the toy story party stuff- but not anymore) I will be stealing lots of ideas from you for preK! I look forward to seeing pumpkin's cute outfits in your posts... I love them... pigtails are so adorable!
ReplyDeleteJust have to add that the pjs and bows came from a mad rush to 4 stores the day before... we didn't just have them at home- I have a feeling you could relate to that.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a great mom! I think the sweet popcorn sounds so much more yummy then painted popcorn :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea painted popcorn is...might be good on one of those long winter day! I love that you were able to "save" the popcon.
