Yes, a couple of days late posting, but last Tuesday,
June 14th, in honor of Flag Day, the little pumpkin and I made our very own American flag.
This would be a fun & super easy craft to do with your preschoolers for 4th of July (they could even do it while you cook dinner!) and I bet you already have all the supplies needed in your craft closet:
*1 sheet each - red, blue & white construction paper
*long ruler
*glue stick
*1 sheet of 12x12 scrapbook paper to serve as your background
Step 1: Have your little one use the ruler as a guide to rip long pieces of red and white construction paper to use as the stripes. Jagged edges add character :)
Step 2: Glue the long strips down.Step 3: Using the ruler as a guide once again, cut out a rectangle out of the blue construction paper and glue down. Optional Step: Make a silly face at mama's not-so-funny joke :) Step 5: Rip little pieces of paper to represent the stars, glue down and voila! You can write our national anthem on the stripes for an added sentiment if you'd like.
A little background...for years I've admired the construction paper flag my friend Michelle made with her little girl Maye (who is now 7!). She even signed it "Maye & Mama" and dated it. I think Maye was 2 or 3 at the time. I love that she framed it and hung it in her son's room. I've been telling Michelle for years that I wanted to copy her and make one of my own, but never got around to it...until now! Thanks for the inspiration dear friend!
Awwwww. I love it! I love borrowing your ideas too. You have to check out my latest fb picture. It could be an idea for an upcoming blog. :))
