Picnic in the Park {Grace's 6th birthday}

Let's start off by making that an INDOOR Picnic - ha!
Yes, we were rained out of the sweet little outdoor picnic I envisioned for the little pumpkin after she selected her theme, but Plan B worked out just fine.

We had included a rain date on her invitations, but when we asked Grace Sunday morning what she wanted to do, she said she still wanted to have her party that day, even if indoors. So our dear friend Aleesa saved the day when she suggested the clubhouse and so Indoor Picnic it was!  ThAnk yOU, Aleesa!!!!!

Sweetest SIX year old little pumpkin!
Bits and pieces from her picnic party...
The invitation...
I wanted to capture some of her favorites things at six, so this was a fun way to do it...
With the help of family and sweet friends, we tried to recreate an easygoing picnic feel inside the clubhouse...
Lots of fun pillows...
The balloons were a last minute addition and boy, am I glad I decided to add them!! All the littles went crazy over them...who would have guessed?!
Quick family pic!
With Noonie and Papa J...
With Mimi and Pop...
So grown-up looking!!
Little brother was such a trooper!  Even with his little hand all bandaged up from burning his palm on the new dryer the night before...
I wanted to mix and match all kinds of garlands and bunting but that trip to the ER did me in and we only ended up with the few I had done ahead of time.

This one is made out of vintage sheets.  I bought it on etsy, but didn't like some of the sheets when it arrived, so I took off a bunch of them, added new strips from my fabric stash and then finished it off with the pom pom trim because well, I seem to have a huge crush on pom poms!
The sweets table...
My friend Bridgette made Grace this sweet cake...chocolate and ganache and all kinds of ooey gooey yumminess on the inside!!
She also made all the yummy cupcakes!!
Wedding cake flavored cupcakes...heavenly!
{I won't even say how many of these I've consumed the last 2 days *hangs head in shame*}
And chocolate...the birthday girl's request!
Can't have a party without a sweet hat!  I added a bit of lace to the trim to give it a little nostalgic feel...can you see it peeking out between the ric rac and the pleats?
Those repurposed baby snack cans sure came in handy!
Peonies and mason jars...two things that make me happy, happy, happy!
Can't forget those stripey straws!! Berry baskets either!
But you know what I love? I love that the little pumpkin is learning to appreciate all types of vintage items...she can find the beauty in transforming old things and in mixing and matching...love that!
Cotton Candy Lollies and Fairy Wands...both were a hit with all the littles!
Hoola hoops + balloons...the perfect combination!!
Even the itty bitties seemed to enjoy all the commotion...
Sweet friends...
Time for the potato sack races!! We had 4 races to give everyone a turn...
The all-boys' race was FiERcE!  In the end Preston won that heat!
Even Hudson got in on the action!
Potato Sack Race prizes:  frozen yogurt gift cards from one of Grace's favorite shops!
Time for lunch!
Yum!
We put out blankets and quilts and everyone enjoyed their make-shift picnic! ha!
I love that the littles all seemed to enjoy the food!  Yay!
No one, and I mean, no one is taking this orange away from me!
Time for cake!
Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday to you...{feeling a bit shy by all the attention}
Make a wish...
...or SIX if you'd like!
Not happy to stop eating cupcakeS!
So many goodies from so many sweet friends!
Ooooh!
Aaaaah!
Fun!
My sweet helper McKinley passing out more treats...
Party favors! It stopped raining as the party was starting so even though the ground was wet, some of the littles were able to go outside and fly their kites! Yay!!
Thank you friends for coming to celebrate with Grace!
And later at home...having fun with a new trick...
Officially SIX at 8:07 p.m.!
I can't believe Mama let me hold the cake!!
{I'm now ready to help you anytime you need an assistant, Mrs. Bridgette!}
Sugar crash!
ThAnK You to our sweet, sweet family and friends who helped us set up this party, especially with the change in locations at the last minute - we couldn't have done it without you!! And tHAnK yOU to all of Grace's friends who came and celebrated with her - we love you all!

Dear Grace,
You are loved more than you know!
Your smile is contagious and your heart is made of gold.
We love you so, so, so much!  God bless you little pumpkin!
XOXO,
Mama, Daddy and Hudson

  11. I just found you via your garland pinned on Pinterest. Adorable details throughout this whole party!

    I'm absolutely in love with the main aqua floral fabric you used...could you share the name/source? I'd love to use it for my 6 yr old daughter's room makeover! Thanks,

  12. Thank you Andrea & Lisa!

    Lisa~ That fabric is by Denyse Schmidt, part of the Sugar Creek collection, Floral Bouquet is the name of that particular print. I bought it as part of the DS Quilter's Quarters at JoAnn Fabrics...basically 4 prints in 1 yard. Here's a better picture of what I'm talking about...

  16. Hello, I know this is an old post. I am having my daughters birthday this weekend and I love the kids food. Did you find that the lettuce and tomato were more for looks or did the kids eat them? I know kind of a funny question but just wanted your thoughts. Thanks!!

  17. Hi, Kelli~ They loved the grape tomatoes but the organic lettuce ended up mostly as garnish! Well, except for Grace...she wanted all of the leftover boxes! She's my little salad-loving, healthy eater! :)

  18. Thanks! I am going to put both on. The party is this weekend and sometime next week I will blog about it.
